The North Karanpura coal field is the westernmost member of the Damodar valley coalfields. The Damodar Valley coalfield consists of several other coalfields out of which the block NK-CBM-2001/1 falls in North Karanpura Coalfield. The block stretches across the Hazaribagh and Chatra districts of Jharkhand State of India.

Prabha Energy Private Limited (PEPL), a subsidiary of DERL focusing on CBM E&P business was awarded 25 % farm in stake along with joint operatorship with ONGC in the North Karanpura CBM block through a competitive bidding process.

PEPL, on behalf of consortium partner’s comprising of PEPL, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGCL) & Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is carrying out CBM development operations in North Karanpura CBM Block NK-CBM-2001/1, Jharkhand from the year of 2018-19.
